As one of the nine married couples in the WWE, the duo is set to spend this Valentine’s Day competing at Friday Night SmackDown at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. While they won’t be celebrating at home, Ford, 34, has a knack for keeping the romance alive, even on the road.
Creative Romance on the Road
For Ford, being away from home on Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to get creative. “It’s fun for me because it kind of forces me to be creative,” he shared. One year, he surprised Belair at a SmackDown event by covering the arena floor with flower petals. “As soon as she walked out of the locker room, I was laying right there on the floor waiting for her. And I asked her, ‘Do you need a ride?’”
Belair, 35, appreciates the effort, especially since their demanding schedules often keep them apart from family. “We’re hardly home on Valentine’s Day … so at least we’re spending Valentine’s Day together,” she said.
A Love Born in the WWE
The couple, who tied the knot in 2018, met through the WWE, where they found common ground in their shared passion for wrestling. Belair, a three-time Women’s Champion, recalled the moment she first saw Ford: “I was like, ‘That is a beautiful man. Keep him away from me.’” Ford, equally smitten, was drawn to her radiant smile.
Their relationship blossomed after a group dinner organized by a coworker. Belair admitted she had a crush on Ford but accidentally gave him the wrong number when he finally asked for it. “To this day, I think she did [it] as a little payback,” Ford joked.
A Proposal That Didn’t Go as Planned
Ford’s proposal was equally spontaneous. He had planned to pop the question during a trip to Vegas, overlooking the Grand Canyon, but couldn’t wait once he had the ring. “The day before … I ended up proposing to her outside in our apartment’s parking lot … right there on the concrete,” he revealed.
Balancing Love and Wrestling
Being part of the same company has its perks, especially when it comes to balancing their personal and professional lives. “We’re on the road so much. So there’s a huge sacrifice when it comes to being in WWE, and our families are sharing us with the world, and our coworkers kind of become each other’s family,” Belair explained.
However, the dangers of the profession can still be nerve-wracking. Belair admitted she gets anxious watching Ford perform. “He’s a wild, crazy man. When I’m watching him, I can’t control him or help him out, so it makes me very nervous,” she said. Ford, known for his daring moves, added, “I don’t make it easy either because I do a lot of crazy stuff.”
Fan Favorites with a Twist
The couple has become a fan favorite, though Belair’s signature braid often makes her unrecognizable to fans when she’s off-duty. “If my hair is just down, people will recognize him, and sometimes they’ll ask me to take the picture,” she shared. On one occasion, a fan even mistook her for someone else, asking Ford, “Where’s Bianca?”
To avoid being mobbed by fans in hotel lobbies, Belair has a clever trick up her sleeve. “Whenever we get [delivery] orders, I make him go down there and he’ll put my wig on,” she said with a laugh.
